Nearly twenty-five thousand households in southeastern Queensland were left lacking electricity on the start of the week after powerful weather events impacted the region, producing wind gusts hitting 109km/h.

Large Hailstones and Broad Destruction

Residents reported giant hailstones as large as 7 centimeters in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that different parts across the state had been impacted by large hailstones.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing power throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews activated to address the widespread outages.

Southern State's Storm Challenges

At the same time, around one thousand residents in the southern state also encountered power outages after the metropolitan area saw its wettest day in 18 months.

State Emergency Services handled over five hundred emergency reports across the region, mostly for structural issues but also for downed trees and inundation.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - various assistance requests
• Wyndham - nearly 180 emergency requests

At the height on yesterday, in excess of 28k electricity consumers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along much of the state's eastern regions this week as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was expected to become the wettest day, with continued thunderstorm potential anticipated across different parts of both areas.

Medical Alert

Public health experts warned that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the northern rural areas, especially given the ongoing climate situation.

This alert comes after past events where comparable situations led to substantial respiratory problems in the area.
